The principal aim of the association is to commemorate and honour the service and sacrifice of members of the Australian Defence Force and civilians who defended Australia from invasion in 1942. Among its other aims are to educate young Australians about the Battle for Australia and to foster goodwill with the people of Papua New Guinea. The association has approximately 100 individual and service organisation members and a committee of 15 volunteers. The association has close working relationships with RSL NSW, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the NSW Office of Veterans Affairs, the Anzac Memorial Hyde Park, Papua New Guinea Association of Australia and other service and community organisations.
The responsibilities of the secretary include:
- Preparation of notices of committee meetings and the annual general meeting.
- Preparation of minutes of meeting and distribution to members.
- Making all arrangements for meetings.
- Lodgement of the Annual Information Statement with the ACNC.
- Other usual secretarial and compliance duties.
As secretary, you will be a member of the committee and will have the opportunity to contribute to the important work of the association.
There are usually four meetings of the committee and an annual general meeting of members each year. Meetings take place in the Sydney CBD and usually take two hours.
