RSL NSW Sport and Recreation Pilot

As an initiative of the RSL NSW Strategic Plan, the Sport & Recreation Pilot Program was conducted from 21 March to 31 October 2022, to support the health and wellbeing of RSL NSW members and the wider veteran community.

The pilot program has successfully supported veterans’ wellbeing through building social connections, providing an inclusive and supportive environment for veterans and their families, growing community connections with local businesses and veteran-owned businesses, and growing RSL NSW membership.

Two competition structures were introduced in the pilot program:

  1. The Sports and Recreation Ladder Challenge – a multisport ladder competition involving four sports and two recreation activities. Competing sub-Branches challenged each other in one of the selected activities for a position on the ladder.
  2. The Sports and Recreation Participation Competition – a fun, collaborative point-based competition that involved choosing from a list of 16 activities to do as a sub-Branch. Bonus points were offered for collaborating with nearby sub-Branches, hosting family-friendly activities, and collaborating with local veteran-serving organisations.

Following the success of the pilot program, RSL NSW will launch a state-wide Sport & Recreation Program this year.

Members are invited to complete the survey to share ideas and opinions and to help shape the future program for veterans and their families across New South Wales.
