Circular 46/21 Opportunity to participate in the design phase of the sub-Branch compliance online report

Goal 5 in our 2021-2026 Strategic Plan is to ‘Implement an optimised and sustainable operating business model’. A key part of our business model is compliance with the RSL NSW Act, Constitution, and Standard Operating Procedures, as well as regulatory requirements such as those from the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).

As part of our efforts in strengthening our compliance and governance across RSL NSW, ANZAC House is establishing an annual sub-Branch compliance online reporting program. We are targeting completion of the online report by the sub-Branches in June each year, starting with the first report in 2022.

The objectives of the program are:

  • to better understand and manage the risks we face in operating as sub-Branches
  • identify opportunities for better managing key risks
  • contribute to meeting legal and regulatory requirements
  • deliver on our purpose and vision; and
  • prioritise content for the state-wide governance and regulatory compliance training program (priority initiative 5.7 RSL NSW Strategic Plan).

The program will also support the ACNC’s requirement to maintain, protect and enhance public trust and confidence through increased accountability and transparency.

An essential part of developing the program is consulting with representatives from our sub-Branches so that we can better understand what reporting and governance currently exists and receive your input on key risks and how they are being managed. We also want to get your feedback on any barriers you may face in completing the report and your ideas for making the report as easy as possible to complete.

If you are a previous or current member of your sub-Branch Executive, and you have a particular interest in this subject and would like to be involved, please send an email to risk.compliance@rslnsw.org.au by Tuesday 30 November.

We will conduct individual interviews with sub-Branch representatives in December. The interview questions will be distributed at least one week beforehand, and the interview will take approximately 45 mins via telephone or Microsoft Teams.  Please note that all responses will be kept anonymous.

We look forward to hearing from you and welcome your input to this important initiative for the sub-Branches. If you have any questions, please email risk.compliance@rslnsw.org.au.
