President Update – 9 June 2020

Dear RSL members,

On behalf of the RSL NSW Board and the team at ANZAC House, I would like to congratulate the following RSL NSW members who were awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division as part of the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours list:

  • Mr Alan Ross Barnes, Kingsgrove RSL sub-Branch, for service to veterans and their families
  • Mr Michael Edward Hickey, Terrigal/Wamberal RSL sub-Branch, for service to veterans and their families, and to the community
  • Mr Donald Edward Kennedy, Merchant Navy RSL sub-Branch, for service to veterans, and to the community
  • Mrs Gwen Swadling, Penshurst RSL sub-Branch, for service to veterans and their families

I would like to congratulate The Honourable Bronwyn Bishop, an affiliate member of Avalon Beach RSL sub-Branch for her recognition as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the General Division for distinguished service to the Parliament of Australia, to the people of New South Wales, and to women in politics.

I am also very honoured to inform you that I join the list of recipients for this year’s awards and have received an OAM for service to veterans and their families.

As a Life Member of the RSL, and in my capacity as President, I have always been proud of my role as a veteran and what I have been able to do for the veteran community. I share the same feeling of gratitude as my fellow honourees and I am truly grateful to all of you, the members of the League, for allowing me to represent you.

These honours recognise that the RSL and its members continue to provide support to communities across Australia.

If you or another member received an award as part of the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours and are not mentioned above, please email support@rslnsw.org.au so that we can formally recognise your achievement.

Yours,

Ray James OAM

Acting State President
