State Secretary Newsletter – 13 November 2019

Dear Members,

Capitation Fees for New Memberships

In line with a motion carried at our recent congress, sub-Branches are advised that the 2020 annual subscription fee for new members is $35, with the RSL NSW capitation fee component now $25. The $25 capitation fee component should be paid to RSL NSW, preferably by EFT or cheque, and must accompany all new membership applications.

Please keep in mind that membership renewals for 2020 will be processed under a new system by which sub-Branches will collect the full annual subscription fee of $35 from each of their members, and RSL NSW will invoice the sub-Branch for the combined capitation fee. This system was explained in detail in a circular sent to Honorary Secretaries last month (C11/19, click here).

2020 Membership Cards

Members should be aware that we do not currently have a date for the issue of new memberships cards. Once a date has been confirmed it will be disseminated via a future newsletter.

Remembrance Day & Poppy Appeal

I trust you all had successful Remembrance Day services. You are the custodians of a sacred tradition, and I know you take pride in giving the public this opportunity to pay tribute to those who served before us, and alongside us.

Thanks to all sub-Branches that have participated in the Poppy Appeal, and to the members and others who have donated, spread the word, and volunteered to help. The appeal officially ends this Friday, 15 November, however, you will continue to be able to donate through the Poppy Appeal website (click here and please share the link).

The enthusiasm and cooperation towards a shared goal across the League for this appeal has been inspiring, particularly coming out of a difficult couple of years.

Please be aware that paperwork and leftover stock (with picking slip) should be returned by 29 November to the following addresses:

  • Leftover stock (with picking slip): PMA Global, 1 Grady Crescent, Erskine Park NSW 2759
  • Paperwork: RSL Fundraising, Level 5, 341 George St, Sydney NSW 2000

Thank you for your help. If you require any assistance, please contact the Support Unit at support@rslnsw.org.au or 1300 679 775.

Reveille

The Reveille editorial team would like to feature sub-Branch Remembrance Day services in the upcoming December issue. Those organising their sub-Branch’s service are encouraged to send a 200-word summary of the event, focusing on what makes it unique, along with high-resolution photographs (as separate files) to news@rslnsw.org.au. The deadline for these submissions is approaching quickly so please have your stories in by Tuesday, 19 November.

2020 Sub-Branch Budget Reminder

Sub-Branch Honorary Secretaries should be aware that 2020 budgets are due by 30 November 2019. Please contact the Support Unit at support@rslnsw.org.au or 1300 679 775 if you have any questions.

RSL NSW has received a request from AVCAT for sub-Branches to consider donating to this worthy cause. AVCAT provide scholarships to children of veterans to assist with tertiary education. Information regarding the activities of AVCAT and how to donate can be found on their website (click here). For the information of sub-Branch Treasurers’, if budgeting to make a donation to AVCAT it would fall under condition 3 of By-Law 22.

ANZAC of the Year Nominations

A reminder that applications are sought from sub-Branches for the annual ANZAC of the Year awards. The award honours those who serve in peace as well as perpetuating the memory and gallantry of those who served in war. Information on the award and application forms can be found on the RSL NSW website (click here). Any application will need to be received at ANZAC House by close of business 31 January 2020.

RSL DefenceCare

Following questions from members at congress, we wanted to clarify that RSL DefenceCare is operated out of RSL NSW. RSL NSW provides services to veterans through RSL DefenceCare. For more information on the services that are available for veterans and their families, visit rsldefencecare.org.au. Sub-Branches will soon receive correspondence regarding how to make contributions to RSL DefenceCare.

Strategic Planning Input

Members are invited to provide input on the strategic direction of RSL NSW. A page has been set up in the Members’ Suite area of the website that provides information on Strategic Plan Development. It includes the CEO’s presentations and Q&A from Congress, themes of the Strategic Plan and a survey for members to provide input. To access the Strategic Plan Development page and provide input, click here.
