Invictus Games Sydney 2018 Update

The countdown is on to Invictus Games Sydney 2018! Expect to receive an email later today on the latest news and events in the lead up to the Games.

 

2018 Premier’s Centenary of Anzac Reception

For information and circulation to sub-Branch members

The NSW Premier will host the 2018 Premier’s Centenary of Anzac Reception on Wednesday 14 November 2018. This will the fourth reception of four annual events planned to mark the Centenary of Anzac period. Venue details are yet to be confirmed, however the event will be held in Sydney from 6pm to 8pm.

The Office of Veterans Affairs has extended an invitation for 35 RSL NSW members to attend. This invitation is open to members who have not yet had the opportunity to attend a Premier’s Centenary of Anzac Reception. Invitations will be equally distributed to RSL NSW members from the army, navy and air force to ensure fair representation from the tri-services.

2018 Extraordinary Congress Update

Thank you to members who have already registered for the 2018 Extraordinary Congress. Unfortunately, there is no capacity for observers or guests to attend the Extraordinary Congress at this stage. Should this change, sub-Branches will be advised via the State Secretary Newsletter.

 

Merchant Navy Day Memorial Service

Sub-Branches are invited to attend the Merchant Navy Day Memorial Service at Mosman War Memorial, adjacent to the Allan Border Oval behind the Council Chambers at Spit Junction. All are welcome to lay a wreath/tribute following the official wreath laying. Please notify Merrill Barker if you wish to do so.

A Nation’s Tribute – 11 November 2018

At 5pm on 11 November 2018, bagpipers across Australia will be part of an international commemoration to mark the signing of the Armistice in WWI. Australian pipers and bands will play The Battle’s O’er, a tune composed a century ago to honour those who served and to this day, regularly played by bands the world over.

Australia’s participation in the international commemoration is being co-ordinated by Pipe Bands Australia and is timed to coincide with pipers in Britain and across Europe playing The Battle’s O’er at the time the Armistice was signed at 6am in the Northern Hemisphere.

Sub-Branches are invited to participate and should register their interest with Pipe Bands Australia. Bands and individuals participating in the Battle’s O’er commemoration will receive a special certificate.

If you sub-Branch is not associated with a local pipe band, please contact Pipe Bands Australia via email here and they will assist in helping your sub-Branch find a pipe band to collaborate with.
