State Secretary Newsletter – 8 August 2018

Events and campaigns leading up to Invictus Games 2018

For information and circulation to sub-Branch members

In the lead up to the Invictus Games in October, events and awareness campaigns will be taking place across the state which may be of interest to sub-Branches.

As information regarding these events come in, they will be posted on the RSL NSW website Community Noticeboard. Please find the link here.

We recommend sub-Branches check the Community Noticeboard on a regular basis, as this will be where the most up-to-date information regarding such events and campaigns will be hosted.

The latest Invictus Games related events to be posted on the Community Noticeboard include the Stand Tall for PTS International Awareness event and the Victory – Legacy of Legends Coffee fundraising campaign.

Please check the Community Noticeboard for further details and should your sub-Branch be interested in engaging with either or both events, please contact the organisers directly. Contact details for both events can be found on the Community Noticeboard.

Garden Island Tours

For information and circulation to sub-Branch members

Members of the public are invited to attend tours of Garden Island, which are conducted by the Naval Historical Society of Australia on most Thursdays. The cost per person is $20.00.

The tour includes areas within the secure precinct of Garden Island – which is not open to the public -including the Kuttabul Memorial, the Garden Island Chapel, heritage buildings and the top of the Captain Cook Dock.

Please note, there is quite a lot of walking involved and some stairs during the tour, so group members need to be relatively mobile. The tour is not suitable for visitors who utilise a wheelchair or walking frame.

For security reasons, names of attendees must be submitted to the Naval Historical Society of Australia no later than one week before the tour. Photo identification such as a passport or driver licence will need to be presented on the day of the tour.

More information about the tour can be found here.

To book a tour or make an inquiry, please contact Paul Nolan or Frank Doughty on (02) 9359 2243 from the Naval Historical Society of Australia.
