State Secretary Newsletter – 9 April 2018
Dear Honorary Secretary,
This is the first of a new State Secretary newsletter. This will keep members across League administrative matters and provide updates on work being done at ANZAC House. Members will continue to receive the President’s Update.
Sub-Branch & Member Support Unit
From Monday, a new dedicated sub-Branch and member resource will be established at ANZAC House. The new unit will provide sub-Branches and members with a central point of contact and means of getting questions answered and assistance in a timely fashion.
This unit will be the first port of call and single contact point for all RSL NSW member and sub-Branch feedback and enquiries. The unit will assess what is required, coordinate specialist internal advice and information, and provide answers back to members. (Please note RSL DefenceCare calls should continue to go directly to RSL DefenceCare on 02 8088 0388).
The support unit can be contacted by both email and phone.
- Email – A new email address has been set up – email@example.com. The existing email addresses will continue to work and be diverted to the support unit for response. The unit will assess what is involved with each email and make sure that they respond to you within 3 working days.
- Phone – A new direct line which bypasses the switchboard is available for urgent enquiries from 8.30am – 4.30pm. The direct access number is 1300 679 775.
If members want to provide feedback to help further refine this new service, please contact the State Secretary by email – firstname.lastname@example.org.
RSL NSW sub-Branch Email Addresses
Last year RSL NSW provided each sub-Branch with an email address. Most of these have been activated. There are still some sub-Branches that haven’t done this.
From June 1 all correspondence from State Branch will be directed to this email address exclusively. We will discontinue using other email addresses on 1 June 2018. This makes it critical for sub-Branches to activate their accounts to receive all State Branch communication.
Members and sub-Branches are still able to retain and use existing email addresses however official communication from State Branch to sub-Branches will be via the RSL NSW provided email address from 1 June.
There are additional benefits to activating the RSL sub-Branch email. These include the following:
- Email safety and web security hygiene. As part of the RSL NSW email network, sub-Branches are protected from key malware threats and spam is filtered. Recently some sub-Branches not using RSL NSW sub-Branch email addresses were targeted by a phishing scam. This caused confusion and put their email security at risk. The RSL NSW email system offers protection.
- RSL NSW sub-Branch email addresses are part of a central email address book system. This allows members to search for people within the League and find contact email address details easily.
- RSL NSW’s email is hosted by Office 365 in the cloud. The advantage of this is that the email system does not go down and is always on and available.
The activation information will be re-sent to the sub-Branches that are not using their new email address and I ask that you attend to this as soon as possible and before 1 June 2018. This information will be sent out before April 20.
Definition of Welfare
State Branch has received a lot of excellent feedback and questions on the definition of welfare and the list of inclusions and exclusions. Please continue.
We will be revising the inclusions and exclusions list as a result, and as the needs of veterans and their families change over time. Our aim is to update changes monthly and we will notify you through this update when changes are made.
ANZAC Day 2018
The Sydney order of march and the map are now available on the website. Thank you for your patience while this has been organised.
Sub-Branch ANZAC Day activities can be entered directly into the calendar on the website. This can be filled out online within the secure zone and will automatically load to the website. If members require help with this, please email email@example.com and the unit will organise assistance for you.
We are in the process of finalising the program and it will be released to members shortly. Congress events will run from the afternoon on Sunday, May 20 to the afternoon on Wednesday, May 23.
Next week a pre-registration for Congress 2018 form will be loaded onto the website within the secure zone and a copy sent to sub-Branches. This form is for those members planning to attend Congress to fill out and return to ANZAC House. The website form can be completed online. This pre-registration form will allow RSL NSW to organise courtesy buses for members when they arrive at Congress.
Fundraising for Invictus this ANZAC Day
To get involved in the Invictus Games Appeal in the lead up to ANZAC Day, please complete the expression of interest (EOI) form located in the secure zone of the RSL NSW website or follow this link – http://rslnsw.org.au/invictus-fundraising
If your sub-Branch has problems accessing the secure zone, please contact Michael Green on 02 9264 8188 (ext. 718). Please note that all fundraising EOI’s for the Invictus Games Appeal must be received by Friday, 13 April. Donations can continue to be submitted after this time.
Sub-Branches that submit an EOI form will be contacted by the Appeals Team with all the information and materials needed to fundraise or donate as an agent of the Invictus Games Appeal. This pack will also include FAQ’s and information about the Appeal.
Please take a moment to watch the below video from State Councillor and former Invictus athlete, Scott Seccombe about the Invictus Games Sydney 2018. [Please note, this video has since been removed.]
